Job duties
Here are some of the main activities and tasks that Carpenters have to perform, and some of the physical demands they involve:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
- Supervise apprentices and other construction workers, previous experience not required but an asset
- Journeyman ticket is an asset but not required.
- Other construction experience (ie. roofing, siding, etc) is an asset.
- Must have own transportation to travel to job sites and between job sites during the day.
- Must have own tool belt with tools, worksafe approved shoes
