THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to and following direction from the General Contractor Site Supervisor and Yucwmenlúcwu’s Senior Project Manager, the General Labourer will play a vital role in supporting the construction team on the Bruhn Bridge project. The project is expected to last 1.5 years and will be on site at the Bruhn Bridge location in Sicamous, BC.

You will perform various manual tasks and assist with general construction activities and allow you to gain valuable experience in the civil construction industry. This position requires a strong work ethic, a willingness to work in various weather conditions, and the ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team. This position includes shift work. You will work three to four days per week on a rotating shift schedule. They will be 10-hour shifts plus 2 hours per day for travel as needed. Some overtime may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning duties on construction sites by removing debris, obstacles, and hazardous materials.
  • Assist construction crew in performing general construction tasks such as moving items on sites, signage, barricades and miscellaneous errands.
  • Shovel cement and other materials into cement mixers, spread concrete.
  • Assist equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment or trucks.
  • Safely fuel construction vehicles and equipment, following proper fueling procedures and guidelines to prevent spills, accidents, and environmental hazards.
  • Adhere to all health and safety polices, procedures and guidelines and report any safety hazards, incidents, or issues to management in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and skill development opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in civil construction or a related field an asset.
  • Physically fit and able to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive manual labour tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Safety-conscious mindset and understanding of construction site hazards.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle an asset.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/SCHEDULE:

TOTAL REWARDS:

  • Wage Range: $25 – $35/hour, based on skill set and experience.
