THE OPPORTUNITY:
Yucwmenlúcwu (Caretakers of the Land) is a division of Splatsin Development Corporation. The approach is focused on the protection and conservation of resources and their connection to Secwepemc people, culture, and traditions. With Splatsin culture and connection to the land guiding the construction department this position will play an essential role in traffic control. The team consists of professional tradespeople, construction staff, and project management providing services to our many clients and partners.

Reporting directly to Yucwmenlúcwu Traffic Coordinator and working alongside our Yucwmenlúcwu team members, the Traffic Controller will be located on various construction sites throughout the BC Interior. You will direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic to ensure public safety at all times. The project is expected to last 1.5 years and will be on site at the Bruhn Bridge location in Sicamous, BC.

This role is a 18-month contract position to support the Bruhn Bridge project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • On-site traffic control such as performing traffic flow control methods, stopping, slowing and re-directing traffic on construction sites using hand signals, flags, and signs.
  • Manage movements of emergency response teams, construction workers and the general public.
  • Set up, manage, and remove temporary traffic control devices, including cones, barriers, signs, and barricades.
  • Direct traffic using a stop-slow sign and other traffic control devices.
  • Give and receive radio updates to coordinate with other road traffic personnel, construction workers and emergency response teams.
  • Complete site checks and monitor traffic and flow to ensure safety.
  • Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings with construction teams as required.
  • Adhere to all health and safety polices, procedures and guidelines and report any safety hazards, incidents, or issues to management in a timely manner.
  • Identify and report potential hazards, such as uneven surfaces, obstructions, or dangerous conditions, to supervisors and construction crews to mitigate safety risks.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and skill development opportunities, particularly in carpentry-related tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
  • In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with traffic control equipment and procedures
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and guidelines
  • Valid WorkSafeBC approved traffic control certification or willing to obtain
  • Clean driving abstract and valid BC Drivers License
  • Communication skills for working with others on the job
  • Problem solving skills to troubleshoot potential issues
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • This position will have varying hours, depending on the project.
  • Field environment (construction site).

TOTAL REWARDS:

  • Wage Range: $20 – $24/hour, based on skill set and experience.
